Miss Georgia was crowned Miss America on Sunday, the 13th of September, 2015. Betty Cantrell won the title and will have a couple of months rest before beginning her Miss America 2016 duties. During the pageant, she impressed the judges with her operatic singing talent, bouncy hair, and ability to respond eloquently to an ethically charged sports question in just 20 seconds. As Miss America she has won all of our hearts, as well as a beautiful tiara, $50,000 in scholarship funding, and a Kia Sorento.
The following pictures show the very emotional process of being crowned Miss America.
Betty Cantrell is the first Miss Georgia to win the annual pageant since 1958. Miss Georgia Neva Jane Langley, below, went on to be crowned Miss America in 1953.
Also, side note, the title of Miss Oklahoma was held by a Georgia Frazier. Look! They both wore pink bikinis for the ‘Lifestyle and Fitness’ round.
A truly memorable time for the great Georgia name.
Although not as memorable as The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia (thanks Joey Kavanagh for the cool clip).
